This was a youth production right from the top drawer. A well drilled company in all aspects of direction. Excellent stagecraft, simple but very effective choreography, musically on the ball, it cracked along at a good pace and brought out some superb performances. The whole cast showed verve, enthusiasm and great talent, and the enjoyment shone through.
Matt McAuley as Don Lockwood, was confidently and vocally strong, and not a bad mover either in the title song and dance number. An hilarious portrayal by Billy Sweet as Cosmo Brown eking out every ounce of comedy, tumbles and all, a brilliant performance. Hannah Pettit as Kathy Seldon gave a delightful and charming performance. With a lovely singing voice, it was an elegantly eye-catching display. Emma Lowe was the icing on the cake, perfect as the dumb, suitably shrill, silent movie star, Lina Lamont.
There were further good performances from Isaac Brooks, commanding as R F Simpson, Billy Stewart as Dexter, the Director, and a lovely cameo from Holly Douglas as Dora Bailey, you could hear every word.
With minimal ,effective scenery, and colourful costumes, this was a show to be enjoyed. Again congratulations to all involved in this sparkling production, the audience loved it, and so did I.
