Singin’ in the Rain proved to be a highly entertaining evening out. Set firmly in the 20s when ‘talkies’ were taking over from silent movies, this production was very evocative of the period, with excellent stylised choreography and authentic costuming. Taking over the role of heart throb Don Lockwood at short notice, Charlie Sinclair gave a great performance. Kay Dickson captured the spirit and voice of Lena Lamont to perfection. Wendy Tulloch danced and sang beautifully as Kathy Seldon and Clark Graham proved what an all-rounder he is, as Cosmo Brown. James Mitchell was highly believable as R J Simpson. The many other minor principal roles were all well played. The production flowed along at great pace with an enthusiastic ensemble who tackled the many production numbers with great aplomb. The filmed sequences were well produced and showed to maximum advantage on the cinema projection screen. The success of this production was due in no small measure to the excellent orchestra under the baton of Tom Wright who produced such a fine sound. Good all round entertainment!
