Aldreley & Wilmslow certainly like a challenge – and I think Singin’ in the Rain is probably one of the biggest you can get in terms of finding a suitable principal line up and supporting cast and also the staging of such a technical production. Hats off to you!

In the lead role as Don Lockwood, Richard Ross sang and danced well but was very much upstaged by the talent of leading lady Hannah Davies who was delightful in the role of Kathy Seldon. The poor costume choices were soon forgotten when Hannah danced and sang her way into the heart of the role.

Cosmo Brown played by Ian Taylor brought plenty of humour and tons of energy to the stage - he tried so hard in his number ‘Make Em Laugh’. The given choreography however wasn’t funny or slick enough to have everyone falling out of their seats – it’s a number that should overspill with gags and tricks and show flexibility in the character, which I am certain Ian had. I particularly enjoyed the ‘Moses Supposes’ Number with David Reynolds as the vocal coach.

Lina lamont was played by Michelle Anderson who portrayed the character well however dropped quite a few lines which was a real shame. Lina has the funniest gags in the show and her solo ‘Whats Wrong With Me’ was far too tuneful and therefore lost the comedy.

Beautiful Girl was another highlight especially as Adam Newey as the Tenor stepped into the role just a few days before. Well done Adam!

I felt that the choreography was probably too basic for such a big production – the dancing numbers should be the backbone of the show but the biggest disappointment for me was having no rain in the title song. We really needed that spectacle.

The orchestra sounded fabulous under the direction of Mike Bramhall – the musical numbers moved the show along with much needed pace.
