Following on from their successful ‘Sing Out’ concert last year Drama Geeks were back with ‘Sing Out 2025’ featuring 27 youngsters from 6 to 16 years old each with the opportunity to shine.

With the success of the filmed version of ‘Wicked’ it seemed appropriate that the combined ensemble started with a inspiring rendition of ‘Defying Gravity’ with several cast members sharing the lyrics and defining the fact that the group had talent in depth.

The first act featured ‘show tunes’ (with a few little surprises here and there.) Being a lover of all things musical shows I particularly enjoyed ‘Burn’ from Hamilton sang by Amelie Linklater who showed real emotion throughout; ‘Requiem from Dear Evan Hansen performed admirably by Macie Sinclair; as well as songs by Ava Yorke and Eleanor Donkin that were sang with style and charisma.

The whole ensemble again impressed with ‘Touch the Sky’ from Brave which was emotional to hear.

A small group performed ‘Not Getting Married Today’ from Company which stretched the vocal talents of all concerned (in a good way) with its ‘patter song lyrics’ – well done Isla Hamill, Gabrielle Crosby, Lexi Nygaard, Frankie Sinclair, Eva Craig, Nina Mort and Jessica Anderson.

Obviously it would be churlish not to have included a taster for their next show as the whole society performed ‘Omigod You Guys’ from Legally Blonde – can’t wait.

The group performed SIX in the summer and revisited their success with not one but three sets of Queens for their finale (including some Drama Geeks ‘mams’ as a ‘alternative’ rendition)

Act 1 was a splendid look at the talent on show including some lesser known shows like ‘Always a Bridesmaid’ from I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, played with great humour by Eva Craig.

Act 2 continued on impressing with Contemporary music, no more so than the wonderful harmonies shown in ‘Secret Love Song’ performed by Amelie Linklater, Lexi Nygaard, Eleanor Donkin and Macie Sinclair which started the act.

A stand out moment in act 2 was the solo by Mia Fairley singing ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ which was five star by anyone’s standard.

Finally this wonderful showcase of all the talent in the group came to an end with a chorus of ‘Greatest Showman’

I can’t wait to see Legally Blonde…
