What a great evening’s entertainment.  I didn’t stop smiling and laughing from the introduction to the finale.  The feeling I got from the cast and the audience was energy, enthusiasm and downright fun from start to finish, whilst maintaining a degree of professionalism, in what was an amateur production.  Attention to detail in all areas was noted and appreciated.

A well-written pantomime, in the traditional style, but with innuendo and laugh out-loud naughty bits.  Perhaps not as ‘adult’ as some I’ve seen, but as a whole enough rudeness, but without causing offence.

The set was very well painted and devised, colourful and built in such a way that it allowed the cast to move freely on the stage.  Lighting and sound enhanced the set and allowed the cast freedom from mics, always good.  There were a couple of places where the singer could have used a little more projection, but music was well-chosen, and although tracks were used they blended in nicely. I liked the inclusion of the stage manager (Jack Stevens) in the plot, he and the stage crew did well, as there were plenty of props etc to organise.

Choreography was suitable for all involved and was very well-rehearsed.  Costumes were colourful, everyone on stage looked smart and well turned-out.  Musically sound with some good harmonies.

The premise in the introduction from the shows Director that one of the cast wasn’t going to turn up, and therefore someone would have to take over, was handled very well, it engaged the audience from the get go, and created some consternation, as well as hilarity.

Emily Rust (Fairy Godmother) was bright, looked fabulous, twinkled in every way from head to toe, and delivered her lib in a very upbeat way, which made even the more dubious references seem normal!

Nicole Read (Sinders) delivered a charming but feisty character, loved her whole persona, beautiful singing voice, and full-on delivery.  Nicole looked downtrodden in her rags, then delightful and beautifully regal in her lovely ballgown.

The Ugly Sisters (Mariah and Madonna) were brought to life by Richard Chatterley and Simon Tuck, for me a good diverse pairing, the elegant(!) Mariah and the more homely Madonna – but both very upfront, super interaction with the audience – this pairing gave me a contrast which is sometimes lacking in Ugly Sisters.

Andrew Mayze (Baron Brassic), the individual purported to have been dragged away from the bar of the local pub to participate, and who indeed was new to performing and TADS, showed a real feel for his character, I hope he continues to pursue the stage as a hobby.

Rory White and Chris Hopkins (Prince Charming and Dandini) created a super double act, coping with the exchange of persona well.  Rory showed his experience in a different type of part for him, and Chris showed us that he is both adaptable and well able to undertake a lead role.  I loved this duo, super characterisations, they added contrast and dimension to the production.

Nate Chatterley (Buttons) was a revelation, he showed us that he is very capable of handling a raucous audience, in what was for me a ‘coming of age’!  Nate was charming, handled the traditional one liners well and really got the audience on his side – very well done.

The ensemble – Jemma Knight-Downing, Michelle Scowen, Emma Lidford and Jane Samples – added much to the production, being bright and engaging throughout, with good dance and musical skills.

Overall a super production, which the audience and cast were fully invested in – occasionally the audience were a little over-zealous, but hey,,,, they came out for an evening of fun and good theatre, and that’s what they got.  Well done to everyone involved, and my thanks to TADS for their continued hospitality.
