A tale about an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life changing journey alongside his loyal steed Donkey, embarking on a quest to rescue the beautiful but slightly temperamental Princess Fiona from a fire breathing, lovesick dragon. Throw in a bad-tempered short guy, a biscuit with attitude and a gang of Fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the biggest brightest musical comedy around.,

Shrek played by Stuart Evans, looked good, tall and imposing with his clear dialogue he was funny and moved around the stage with the right balance which instantly made the audience on his side.

On Shrek’s travels he met up with Donkey played by Jake Phizacklea, his performance was good, his vocals were awesome, and his actions and expressions had the audience glued to him every time he came on stage.

We then meet Princess Fiona. Fiona is played by three actresses, Young Fiona played by Arien Birks, Teen Fiona played by Abi Stanley, and then the sassy adult Fiona played by Alison Fligg, and what a pleasure it was to hear them all singing as all their voices were amazing. I have got to say big congratulations must go to Alison Fligg who stepped in with three weeks to go to play this part as unfortunately Becky Murray who had done the rehearsals had to suddenly pull out of the show, and what a job you done Alison your Group must be so proud of you, your many years of stage experience showed how talented you are.,

Lord Farquaad played by James Nuttall, was the highlight for me, his character was brilliantly executed. He had great projection and his ability to move around the stage with his dance moves, mount his horse etc was remarkable. He was superb.

I feel mean by not mentioning every single person on stage as you all put on a good performance and having sold out shows tells you how good you have all been so well done to the Ensemble and enjoy the rest of the week.

Unfortunately on the night there was a problem with the lights and the cast had to do the show with a lit up stage meaning you could see all the scene changes etc, I know how this feels especially when you have rehearsed with all the lights in rehearsals, but may I tell you once the show got going I focused on the people on stage and the way you all acted it took my mind away from your lighting problems so well done especially to the stage manager Annette Johnstone, who kept everything going.

Your costumes looked very good, Dancing and singing was good and a big well done to all involved putting this show on from the Beat Team (Benita Blacklock, Erin Ferris, Alison Fligg and Tina Wilson-Ferris)

Producers, Nicky Phizacklea and Tina Wilson-Ferris.

Choreographers, Jake Phizacklea and Erin Ferris.

Congratulations to everybody involved with GADS, for putting on this great musical in your village hall.
