Showcase Extravaganza

This was a joint collaboration between two NODA societies, namely Whitehaven Theatre Group and Whitehaven Theatre of Youth, along with junior guest groups Sing Stars and Stage Stars. These young people performed some lovely musical theatre songs and dance routines.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Theatre Group Chairman, Shaun Donald, who kept the show moving along nicely. There were some fine ensemble numbers from the Theatre Group, notably ‘Seasons of Love , from Rent and ‘ Greased Lightening’, also some very good solos from Rachel Denwood, Lisa Buchanan and Vanessa Turpin.

Whitehaven Theatre  of Youth also contributed some excellent  routines, my particular favourite being’When Your an Addams’, from The Addams Family, all the characters were there, Morticia, Uncle Festus and the rest of the family. The Morton family , namely mother Maria and daughters Louisa and Amy, each performed difficult solos from musical shows, each one of them was excellent.

All in all this showcase was a very fine advert for musical theatre, and very well done to all the groups concerned. It was obvious that a great deal of hard work had gone into making the show the success that it was. I also liked the informal way the audience were seated, cabaret style sround tables, with drinks and nibbles, rather than a formal auditorium.

Another lovely night of musical theatre, what a fantastic hobby we practice.
