'Shout!' the mod musical created by Philip George and David Lowenstein really does bring the swinging 60's alive with some well know songs, traditional themes and fantastic comedy moments. This musical allows people to reminisce and give others a history lesson. The show provides a very lively, funny and enjoyable show that everyone can enjoy. This show focuses on the love life and troubles of 5 young girls and an agony aunt columnist in the 60's. The musical really captures the essence of what people love about this decade. From love to drugs and mini's to boys, the show is captivating and thought provoking.

Before the show even started we were treated to a warm up act with comedy and live signing which got the party started and proved a valued addition to the show. This warm up gave the audience a taste of what was in store with 60’s songs and dialogue which gave a snip-it of what the decade was like. We were also able to see the stage set for the show with 5 colour themed sections which were organised with matching tables, chairs and accessories again within these 5 colours. The set was well designed and attention had obviously been paid to the neat artistry and dressing of it.

From the first beat of music, the on stage band were excellent and never once overpower the cast. The musical direction was first class with the singing being very neatly arranged and the harmonies throughout having been meticulously worked on. The time and effort taken to ensure this was note perfect was appreciated and could be heard throughout the whole performance.

Initially there were some minor sound issues with feedback and sound balance, but this was quickly rectified. The costumes, props, choreography and characterisations were all fitting for the time period of the show and were maintained throughout. The mini shirts and knee high boots obviously brought back many memories for many people watching. Time and effort obviously went into the stage dressing with every prop matching the colour for each member of the main cast, down to matching glasses, jugs and even the tambourines. The video and graphic projection alongside the stage also added to the experience and was well produced. Lighting design was good and the coloured down spots on each girl provided a focal point and a lasting picture for the audience to remember at the end of the show.

The whole show was superbly choreographed with all cast members performing the movements on point and the principle ensemble cast being the icing on the cake, with sharp and precise executions of every routine. This ensemble main cast were excellent and each of them managed to bring a different dimension to the show with their individual characterisations. These were maintained and provided many comedy moments throughout the whole show. A highlight of the show for us was the James Bond themed section and medley; this had very comical starting bars to the song and proved to be memorable.

Overall the society should be extremely proud of themselves for staging such a quality show. This production provided all who watched with an enjoyable and entertaining evening with the whole audience clapping, singing and dancing along. Shout! The 60's Mod musical by Accrington Theatre Group was definitely something to 'shout' about. We look forward to visiting the society again and wish them all the best for their next production of Hairspray in 2015.
