Sheila’s Island by Tim Firth– This all-female play sees four businesswomen forced to be involved in a team building exercise. They become shipwrecked one November weekend on a foggy island. A lost rucksack, an out of power mobile phone, a game of French cricket all conspire to make it not such a joyful bonding as planned.
The stage crew were able to create a most realistic ‘island’ with a seashore, rocks, trees. Good use of ‘smoke’ to create the foggy/misty atmosphere. Throughout the performance the lights were well used to change the time of day and general eerie atmosphere. The fireworks were particularly cleverly replicated. The cast had made a great effort to have all the clothing they needed including all those items that came out of the rucksacks which appeared to be bottomless pits.
The productions team are to be congratulated together with the cast for bringing this play to such a tremendous conclusion. The evening was extremely enjoyable, light-hearted but thought provoking. Such a change from the world around us. A good choice of play for this set of very talented ladies. They kept the production moving most successfully and maintained their characters in a stylish manner appearing very at ease with their roles. Each member of the cast contributed a strong element to the performance.
A wonderful evening of entertainment, laughter and wistfulness.
