This was my first experience of this show based on the works of Dr Seuss which weaves together his most famous tales and characters and it was a most enjoyable introduction indeed. This allowed Forfar Musical Society to show the talents of a wide age group and cast members rose well to the challenge. In the pivotal role of Cat in the Hat, Billy Muir was outstanding both in voice and stage presence, moving the piece along with great confidence and timing. He was ably assisted by Gemma Carnegie and Alice Lindsay as Thing 1 and Thing 2. Caitlyn McCallum was a charming Jo-Jo throughout and the young Mr and Mrs Mayor (John-Pierre Bernard and Abbie Fordyce) did very well for such young performers. Although it could be said that there is not much of a "story" top this show there was a sense of romance between Horton the Elephant from the Jungle of Nool and Gertrude McFuzz from Whoville, more than ably played by Andrew Wilson and Terri Roberts respectively; both having delightful voices in solo and duet numbers. Joan Mitchell was in great form as Sour Kangaroo - impressive make-up! - also ably assisted by Rebecca Mitchell as Young Kangaroo. Danielle Findlay carried the important part of Mazie La Bird well, both with and without her "Bird Girls" backing group. Other characters and chorus members, too numerous to mention individually, kept the piece going with excellent singing and dancing, accompanied by a very enjoyable and well-controlled 12-piece orchestra - a most enjoyable production. Well done FMS!
