Ever since my Mum took me to see “The Magic of the Musicals” at a local theatre starring Marti Webb and Mark Rattray, I have been a fan of the opportunity to enjoy some musical theatre favourites all in one evening. Mellows did not disappoint with a fabulous melange of time-honoured classics along with some more modern touches.

It was great to see a mix of adult and junior performers across the evening, adding to the variety of the song choices. The director & musical director had done a fabulous job. Unfortunately, in parts, the sound let the performers down. Some of the vocals ended up slightly muffled and even distorted. This was entirely down to the sound system and not the performers. I have seen several productions at this venue without issue so not sure what the problem was but the artists did a sterling job of putting on an excellent performance despite the tech challenges.

Costume, set and dressing added admirably to the performances across the evening. There were no weak links across the vocalists and everyone was having such a good time which was infectious as proven by the audience’s response. It was a very good-sized audience, many of whom were on their feet as the evening concluded.

I very much enjoyed my evening and as always, look forward with much anticipation to The Mellow Dramatics’ next offering as you always know the quality to expect.
