This musical with book, music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse was an excellent choice to celebrate the society's 50th Anniversay. I understand the group reformed in 1965 as the Skegness Operatic Society, having disbanded during the years of the 2nd World War. I have pleasure in revealing that I have seen no fewer than 36 of these productions.
All the principal characters performed well. I was particularly impressed with Trevor Fenton's portrayal of Scrooge; he was quite remarkable. Jon Molson [Jacob Marley], Paul Fisher [Tom Jenkins] and Presious Stewart-Coates as Tiny Tim are all worthy of special mention. The partipation by the chorus members was pleasing and the accompaniment by the orchestra was good. However, at times I felt it was a little too loud for the vocalists. The well-designed set suited the dimensions of the stage and scene-chenges took place most efficiently and quietly. In addition, the special effects and lighting were excellent. So, too, were the costumes which suited the era admirably. Congratulations on an entertaining production.
