Rugby Theatre performed School of Rock. As failed rock star Dewey Finn gets kicked out of his own band, he uses his best friend's identity to pose as a School Teacher to earn some money, we then follow the story as the class he teaches becomes the “School of Rock”
Dewey Finn is a big role and is hardly off stage, Will Neale put in an excellent, energetic all round performance which was maintained throughout. Will was in the unique position to be sharing a two-week run with Matt Watson, who was unwell on tonight’s performance, Will would normally perform with Team Mount Rock and credit goes to both Will and “Team Stick It to the Man” to adjusting with ease.
Libby Lowe as Rosalie Mullins played the uptight headmistress and was able to portray both sides of the character flawlessly and gave a beautiful rendition of ‘Where Did the Rock Go’.
Laura Hunt as Patty Di Marco had excellent characteristics as the dominant girlfriend of Ned Schneebly and played the role well. Adrian Wilson as Ned showed the meeker side of his character when he was with Patty and when required, his inner Rock God! The scene involving the Guitar Hero was very well done.
The remaining adult principal cast, formed of the parents and teachers, were excellent with both roles. The younger cast whether they were in the band or just part of the class/bands were excellent and those that were in the School of Rock Band played live! It was fantastic to see at such a young age that they showed excellent talent.
There was some beautiful choreography, musical numbers and excellent use of set.
It was a fantastic and enjoyable evening’s entertainment.
