Salt Of The Earth focuses on dreams, joys heartaches and disappointments of the Parker sisters Annie and May whose hopes centre on May’s son Paul and his academic success, triggers not only pride but ever increasing rife.
A story spanning three generations from 1947 to 1988. Set in a West Yorkshire mining community, the audiences are taken on a roller-coaster ride of emotions as they are transported into the lives of these fictional but very real people.
With all dramas that span a number of years the actors have to aged accordingly, which is very challenging, not just physically, but mentally as well.
With many scenes changes to cover the passing of time the bare stage worked well with the cast setting the scenes with minimalistic props.
The pace of the lib was very good, and flowed well from scene to scene with a number of actors giving narratives to how life was progressing in the families.
The sisters May (Sue Brigg) Annie (Tracey Briggs), husbands Harry (Mark Hague) and Roy (Frank Bardsley) and Paul (George Glasby) giving strong performances, and portrayed their characters extremely well, as did Tosh (Greg Muscroft) and Kay (Susan Hurst).
Each and every member of the cast of 11 gave life to their characters, showing humour, love, and pathos.
The play was well directed by Neil Mather, who showed a good understanding of the script.
Many congratulations to everyone involved in this excellent production, which I thoroughly enjoyed, as well as the audience.
Thank you to company for the invite, and look forward to your 2019 season.
