This is an absolutely charming musical and the society performed it with great style. The whole cast seemed to get the light hearted feel of the show and sang and danced with great vigour. Timothy and Jane were a lovely couple. Sophie Barnard sang and danced with just the right tone for the style of music and Conor Chambers looked and sounded perfect as Timothy, a rather “Hugh Grantish” characterisation. Ella Sims and Dominic Sly worked hard as Fiona and Nigel and the “adult” parts were well played with Toby McLellan as the Uncles, Lucy Baston and Ann-Marie Cummins as the Mothers and Adam Brodzki as a very funny and rather manic policeman. Jasmine Wright was a convincing Tramp and Caitlin Buckley a very jolly Uncle Zed, ably assisted by Kirsty Privett as Electrode. The night club scene was nicely done and Sally Britton was an excellent Asphynxia. Amelia Wright  was a super Troppo, miming convincingly but it was good to see so many of the cast playing a specific role. The costumes were very bright and colourful, with a hint of the 1950s and the makeup was well done. It was fascinating to see how quickly the nicely painted folding screens could turn into a different set, with the addition of a few props. Rachel Thorpe, the musical director, accompanied brilliantly on the piano. There are some excellent young performers in the group and I am always pleased to see them when they “graduate” to the senior society.
