I was excited to see this performance that Spotlights are taking to Pitlochry to take part in the National Theatre Connections 2024 event. I was not disappointed. The young cast were engaged and enthusiastic, moving with purpose and portraying the different levels of emotions with understanding. We saw anger, sadness, loneliness, betrayal, envy and frustration, a powerful blend, all acted with conviction and empathy. Well done everyone!

This short musical explores these emotions which have been felt by young people throughout time and in different situations. Although written from a younger person’s perspective I understood and identified with a lot of what was being said and acted out. It is a powerful message!

The bare set worked well with the actors handling their own props and pieces of furniture. A great learning experience especially if they want to continue with their hobby in an adult company. The singing was well rehearsed and fitted into the overall effect while the movement flowed from scenario to scenario. The lighting was effective and purposeful.

The ethos of this company is full engagement and I love the fact that the backstage roles are also part of the theatre experience for these young performers. I wish them best of luck at Pitlochry. Thank you for the invite and fingers crossed.
