This is the first time I have seen a show by the ‘Dragon Tale Theatre Group’ and they are to be commended for their enthusiasm in every aspect of the pantomime genre as it was an extremely enjoyable and fun packed evening of entertainment. From the moment the cast bounded onto the stage we were treated to a slick, dynamic and thoroughly entertaining evening.
I was amazed to find out that so many people were involved in this production and that the team were responsible for everything from making the set, the costumes and cups of tea. The set was colourful and clever and Eileen Blake is to be commended for this. The stage manager (Stu Rutherford) and his crew moved it effortlessly and quickly between scenes and with the accomplished band ensemble and their super musical interludes led by Doug Younger the show moved ahead at a lively pace. Good lighting and sound just added the final touch. Costumes, make up and props were all outstanding and Violet Bewick and her team must have worked tirelessly to create the colourful picture they achieved to dress this large cast. There were so many surprises in this panto it would be hard to single them out but suffice to say we loved them and props department led by Marianne Nesbit certainly had their work cut out!
The principals were extremely well chosen for their parts and had the audience hissing, booing and cheering at every opportunity. With so many leading roles it would be impossible to pick out individuals other than to say they were all enthusiastic, sang and acted so well and were very obviously very accomplished performers. Dancing was creative and slick, especially small ensembles and showed the dancers off to their best in their routines. Chorus numbers were enthusiastically performed with all on stage moving and grooving so well. This was without a doubt one of the best team efforts I have seen in any production and Director ‘Wendy Neil’ is to be congratulated for masterminding the whole production to give us an evening of superb entertainment. How lovely to see such a huge number of people on stage, of all ages, having such fun and giving so many people so much pleasure. It was lovely talking to you all at the end and my congratulations again to you all for giving us a wonderful evening of ‘Pantomime’ extravaganza!.
