This year is the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, Sway Drama wanted to remember all those who gave their lives for us all, with a great selection of plays, music and dancing. It made for a great night of entertainment. The scenes follow a rough date order. There a some great moments, it starts with "How it All Began' a small play by Bernard Dunleavy, featuring Lisa as mother, Amelia, Penny and Max as the children at the start of the war being evacuated. This was a great little play using the children of the group. There is a master of ceremony Grahame Goodyear who holds the play together introducing the different acts. He also joins in with Chris Davis as Flanagan & Allen, to name a few. I really liked Margaret as Marlene Dietrich, with 'Lillie Marlene' & 'Falling in Love Again', and 'On a Wing and a Prayer' by Andy. Two great numbers. 'Sheltering from the Blitz' is also by Bernard Dunleavy, this was great and features a lot of the cast during an air raid in the London Underground. Act 1 ends in a sing along, which is great fun.
Act 2 has a great section of Dad's Army, by Jimmy Perry & David Croft, this too was very funny with some great characterisation. You could really tell who was who, there was lots of attention to detail. There was also another nice touch of The Lindy Hop Dancers, this group were great in the wartime costumes dancing to the tunes of the time, Pennsylvania 65000 etc. The Friday Girls singers led by Cynthia Wilson also added a nice touch with a good selection of songs. It was a great idea to get the other groups involved in the production. The set, lighting and sound was just right. Well done to everyone we had a great time.
