I can’t think of a better way for Thurcroft Musical Theatre Company to celebrate their centenary than with their latest offering, Rock The Century. This show had something for everyone, with songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, We Will Rock You and Chess. The entire show had been thought out with so much care and attention and the production team, Tanvia Holden (director/choreograoher) Ray Gallagher (Musical Director) and Nicola Beaumont and Sophie Roberts (Choreographers) should be applauded. The band was a delight to listen too and just the right level for the venue.
There were some great performances throughout the production. Tanvia Holden, once again proved what a powerhouse she is with a very emotional rendition of He’s My Boy from Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, which really pulled at the heart strings. I especially enjoyed the I Got Rhythm number from Crazy For You. Not only did the cast sing and dance this number but they also created the percussion sound with brooms, bells and dustbin lids. A great piece of theatre.
As well as songs from our favourite shows, we were also treated to a spooky spectacular section, which was my favourite. From Thriller to Bad Romance, this was very much a contemporary selection of songs. For me, the performance of the night came curtosey of Claire Stewart, who delighted audiences with the most perfect rendition of the Kate Bush number, Wuthering Heights. It was also great to see and hear John Turner and his interpretation of My Way, which was certainly a crowd pleaser. Ben Unsworth also impressed in many of his numbers, and it’s a great pleasure to watch this young performer get better and better with each show.
Thurcroft Musical Theatre Group are more than that, they’re a family. When they sing together something magical happenes. The harmonies are always on point, and the fun that the cast have on stage is tangible and comes in spades over the footlights.
Many thanks to Jenny, who looked after us so well all evening. Here’s to the the next 100 years of being entertained by TMTG.
