St Monans was truly rocking the night we came to see Rock of Ages!
It was an evening full of iconic rock anthems of the 1980’s, superbly presented with energy, by a first class cast.
As leading lady, Rachel Nee simply nailed the part of Sherrie – her beautiful singing, both of rock numbers and ballads, combined with excellent movement, set this show on the firmest of footings! As her love interest and leading man, Drew, Ewan Archibald showed his versatility and stage comfort, together with his own first class singing voice – particularly so in the slower ballads. Lonny (Neil Hutton) tied the show together well, and, in partnership with Dennis Dupree (Mitch Scott-Bell), had one of the best numbers in the show “I Can’t Fight This Feeling”. As aging rock star Stacee Jaxx, Jonathan Cammidge exuded just the right amount of lechery as befitted his role!
Keziah Scott-Bell was a quirky Regina, as she fought to save the bar.
Comedy too was highlighted by father and son team Stuart and Archie Barton in the roles of father and son German businessmen Hertz and Franz Klinemann respectively.
In particular, Archie’s comedy routines combined with his energetic physical theatre prowess, deserves special mention for providing some showstopping, side-splitting moments in the show. Janice Fyall as Justice Charlier completed a fine cast of principals.
Louise Andrée Douglas-Mirza’s spectacular choreography combining subtlety and raunchiness, together with Robert Nee’s clever and thoughtful direction all made for a truly enjoyable evening.
Thank you ADAMS too, for exemplary hospitality!
