This pantomime certainly raised the roof of the village hall, with all the laughter and hilarity that the cast created from the extremely well scripted piece by Darren Edwards.
Paul Makinson as Sally, the Nautical Dame with ample dumplings, played the role superbly, with an eye catching performance. Our hero Robinson Crusoe, played with great aplomb by Rebecca Pipes was complimented well by our heroine Bonnie, Elenor Fields. Sue Cope gave an excellent portrayal of her snobbish mother Lady Brunella. Nick Mothershaw was Friday, proving to be a most able and convincing ally to Robinson.
Ian Humphries as One-Eye Jack stole the show with a barn-storming performance that captivated all. Not to be outdone, his motley pirate crew, Stefan Osvath as Skull, Mike Sacker as Bones, Jo Russell as Scrapper Sue, and Richard Kirkland a `dainty` Princess Pete, were superb, wringing out every ounce of laughter, and the audience loved it. “A piratical master class”. Alisdair Hamilton was the not so bright Commodore, and in smaller roles good support came from Sue Kirkland, Charlotte Short and Anne Palmer. The troupe of energetic dancers from the local dance school played various sailors, natives and sea creatures with excellent routines.
On a small stage, the well-designed set did not overcrowd the area, and with good costumes, lighting and sound, this was traditional grass roots panto at its best. Thank you for a great evening`s entertainment.
