This Company is very lucky to have two very talented script- writers, Leo Appleton and Rob Fearn who produce original, lively and family friendly scripts. There is always a very good community spirit and feel good factor when this Company puts on its Annual Pantomime.

The curtains opened to reveal a beautiful Woodland scene with the cast completely still, providing a dramatic atmosphere. The scenery throughout was of a very high standard and congratulations must go to Jeannette and Leo Appleton who created these settings. Costumes and accessories were all appropriate for the story line and they looked fresh and immaculate.

The Pantomime was slick, colourful and captured and kept our attention at all times. There was a very good selection of musical numbers, which were performed to a very high standard by both Ensemble and Principals. Congratulations to Pauline Hardie, Musical Director for her attention to detail. It was encouraging to hear a live band with Assistant Musical Director Angie Strickland playing keyboard as part of a quartet of musicians.

Narrator, (Lincoln Green) played by Lyndsey Heron and Alan-a Dale, Pauline Hardie, showed great comic timing as a convincing double act and worked well with the audience. The Villain of the Piece was the Sheriff of Nottingham played with maturity by Archie Follett, who looked like he was enjoying this role and received the usual boos and hisses from the audience. Phil Thomas as his sidekick Sir Guy of Gisbourne is improving with every role he plays. Sofia Hardie played the important role of The Bishop and shows great potential. Lola Donegan Fearn showed so much confidence and stage presence as Much the Miller’s Son.

Congratulations to James Quine who played Robin Hood with a “tongue in cheek” delivery, reflecting the early British Star Errol Flynn. It was an understated interpretation, which I really enjoyed. Well done to Amy Appleton, who stepped in at short notice as Maid Marion.

This is what Pantomime should be, good script, (No smut), great characters and great music.

The enthusiasm of the whole cast was infectious and the audience, both young and more mature, left with a spring in their steps and a smile on their faces.
