‘Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood’ was North Ormesby Minstrels latest offering for Panto Land and it did not disappoint.

Directed by Marie Turnbull and Choreographed by Alice Maenami who was assisted by Hannah Burn, this tale of robbing the rich to give to the poor really is a stable classic.

Leading the way as Robin was Finlay Buchanon who commanded the stage every time he stepped foot on it. Loveable characterisation which the audience really got behind. His faithful right hand man, Will Scarlet played by Michael Reeve again, had great stage presence and both had voices to complement each other.

Assisting Robin and Will was the merry band of outlaws as they are lovingly known including Friar Tuck (Keith Lewis), Little John (Andrew Buchanon). All of them had their own characters to play which was great to see and all made sure the audience knew they were there.

Maid Marion was brought to life by Katie Allen. A sweet portrayal of the character who worked well against Finaly (as Robin). Great stage presence and lovely vocals.

Garry Dring brought the Sheriff of Nottingham to life in his own unique way. Making sure that the audience truly hated him. I have seen pantomimes before when the villain was that little bit too nice, but not Garry! Well done.

Assisting him was Herman the Henchman, his not quite so with it second in command played by the very naughty Marty Maenami. I must always remember from now on that when he is on stage, the likelihood is, I will need an umbrella!

Janet and John, played by Lucy Allan and Brooklan Glen worked really well together. I especially loved the “Unky Wunky” lines haha!

The Spirit of the Greenwood was portrayed by Karen Coates. A nice, warm character that was brilliantly done. The audience really got behind her.

Now Jill, oh where do I start with Jill…..Nurse Norah brought the house down! From Barbie to Madonna, Jill Stephenson had it all. Charisma, comedic timing, great interaction with the audience and even when she forgot something, she carried on like a trouper.

I have to say, the song that stole the show for me had to be ‘You Two’ sang by Jill, Lucy and Brooklan. It really was great to see something so sincere between you both and the audience loved it.

The large ensemble complemented the principals greatly. You could see that all of them were thoroughly enjoying themselves on stage and again, interacted well with the audience.

The singing and dancing were great as usual. Combined with lovely costumes, a simple yet effective set, good lighting and sound. The evening was very much enjoyed by all from start to finish.

Well done to you all and see you next time!
