One of my groups in District 8 is a talented company comprising of members with learning difficulties. It is now in its 22nd year with their Artistic Director Susan Wallin taking the company from strength to strength.
This year's production was written by Susan and tells the story of Robin Hoods terrifying dreams about the future of his beloved Sherwood Forest.
The central character of Robin Hood was played by James Emtage good a good account of the role with a good singing voice.
Susie Schwartz played Maid Marion a demanding role but I felt at times she needed to slow down her dialogue, she had some funny scenes with Sarah Field (Elfreda) who wanted to be a member of Robins band but as Elfeda she could not so she disguise herself as Fred. There were good performances from the rest of Robin Hood's band Ben Rees (Friar Tuck), Chris Male (Little John) Toby Shaw (Alan Dale) and David Atkins (Will Scarlet).
With the power of a time-stone given to him by a wise woman of the forest, Robin is transported from the 12th century to the 21st century. The invisible Robin now sees that his nightmares of Dragons roaming in his beloved Sherwood were indeed JCB digging up Sherwood for Housing Development.
All the group played a different character in Act 2 when we were transported into the 21st century.
One of the highlights of the show was the bow and arrow number in Act 1 perfect timing from all members who appeared in this number. The costumes were good and in keeping with the Medieval period Act1 and Modern day Act 2. The group had worked so hard well done.
I had the pleasure of presenting long service awards at the end of the performance.
