A good family pantomime written by Chris Bennion and offering lots of parts to all the players. Opening rather ’Macbeth-like’ with the three witches plotting, Lucinda, Cassandra, Sabrina (Dawn Boyd, Sharon Coppin, Jessica Sculfor), and providing the evil moments to support the wicked Sheriff of Vicky Aukett, we could all boo loudly.
A huge personality and talent in Kayleigh Poacher as Robin Hood, fabulous projection and leading all singing in great style, looked splendid in the tights and boots and jerkin, certainly she led her merry men to great heights. Some good personalities and vocals from all in the gang: Little John from Joshua Johnson remembered in personality and panache from last year, leading from the front. Alex Dennett as Alan-a-Dale again personality and vocals and comedy timing, worked so well with Little John. Add in Will Scarlett from Sophie Garrod (very cheeky) and Friar Tuck from Nathan Talbot and what a great group in the forest to support Robin.
In the castle we met Nora Notty the nanny (Tony Dosdale) and what a good dame with the personality and timing and comedy and looks. A delightful Marion from Laura Coates, with voice and looks, well played to Robin and fearful of Sheriff. Maid-servant Ellen from Lucy Norman added to the singing skills on stage which were very high standard.
On the ‘baddie’ side, Vicky Aukett looked the part as Sheriff and was not a nice person to meet with the plans if demise of our hero and marriage to the heroine. Very well supported in the wicked phase by henchmen, who also covered the comedy duo, Simon Clarke and Martin Talbot as Kipper and Leech had excellent timing as they led each other on
And in cameo roles, Becky Collard as King Richard (to the rescue in finale) and Bill McGuire as Nana Willow in the dungeon, added to the storyline.
Good support and enthusiasm from the backing chorus and dancers who had been well drilled and sang from their hearts. And they definitely enjoyed their participation with energy on stage.
