The title of this pantomime by Peter Denyer suggested to me that it should have been two separate pantos.  It was, however, two very traditional stories combined into one to make an excellent show, and provide a good evening’s entertainment.  Walkerville is a small community society well supported by its members who provide a good range of voices and acting abilities.  In this production Michael Nee, as the Sheriff of Nottingham, provided the nasty, forceful, stereotypical evil man, ruling with cruelty.  In his role he was supported by the Voice of Beelzebub – cruelly spoken by David Parrack.  John Ord (Herman the Henchman) tried very hard to be cruel, but no matter how hard he tried he always got it wrong, to the amusement of the audience. The evil Sheriff was offset by the nice Spirit of the Greenwood as played by Caroline Gallon, who gave a good impression of the kind and caring spirit she was.  Lisa Givens was a fine strapping Robin Hood in good strong voice, and was supported by his friends Will Scarlett (Brooke Hall), Maid Marion (Sharon Gould) and Friar Tuck (Joan Fothergill).  All gave of their best, and sang very well.

Additional support was well provided by Ken Richardson (Little John) who was well cast in the role, and helped to strengthen the comedy along with John Ord and Alan Tompkins (Nurse Norah) who was also very strong in comedy.  The audience and I particularly liked the schoolroom scene with all the usual gags which were well rehearsed and presented.  The two babes, 'Janet' and 'John' were well played by society yougsters.

These principals were supported by the members of the company who moved and acted well despite the limitations of a small stage.  I also noted the quiet technical improvements being made by the Society.  It is good to see investment being made.  Well done all.
