This venture was written by Fraser Charlton with songs by Gilbert, Sullivan and Offenbach which was most entertaining with sixteen songs in each act all of which were recognisable musically even if the lyrics and dialogue were somewhat different. For instance, ‘Never mind the why and wherefore’ became “Never mind the rising taxes” of which Gilbert & Sullivan would have enjoyed but not approved (like most of us!) The Director, Chris Davies must have had nightmares bringing the fourteen principals and twenty ensemble singers relearning the words to match the songs after the many years singing Gilberts superb lyrics. First night was at Market Theatre Ledbury so all the costumes, props, wardrobe etc had to be transported to Droitwich for the rest of the performances. All Principal singers had fine voices and all together provided an evening of fine singing and enjoyment of which Gilbert and Sullivan would have been proud.
