A panto should be filled with fun and laughter and this one certainly was, full of laugh out loud moments. This panto was full of energy from this very enthusiastic and well - rehearsed cast.
Lydia Sanders played a convincing Robin Hood, the leader of the merry men, who had to pit his (her) wits against The Sheriff of Nottingham to free Maid Marian. Steve Hayes played The Sheriff and how the audience booed him each time he came on stage. A very believable villain. Maid Marian was played by Georgia Morris in her first SSA Drama performance. Keeping everyone together was Nurse Nelly Scarlett played by the co-author and director of the production Chris Cooper. Chris played a true dame with some great costumes. Her son, Silly Willy Scarlett was played by James Gough , another newcomer to SSA, in this his first panto. I do hope it won’t be his last. Good support came from Helen Gibbs as Fairy Bluebell, Lynsday Whitehouse as Oddjob, and Emma Davies-Doran as Little Joan. Zach Whitehouse as Much came over well and it was good to see Gregory March back as Friar Tuck, loved the tap routine. Completing the principal line up were Sophia -Rose Manzoni , Sebastian Johnson and Matilda Hawley.
A couple of the highlights for me, which also had everyone laughing, were the songs linked to someone going out on a date and the saucepan banging song. Brilliant. The company were supported by The Rochelle Dance Academy, very talented dancers indeed.
Chris Cooper and Emma Davies-Doran did a fantastic job in writing this production and it was another sure fire hit for SSA Drama.
Costumes for this production were excellent and the scenery stood out.
This was certainly a panto not to be missed and I look forward to the next.
