The title of this unusual yet fabulous musical can give the wrong message about this show. Some think it’s all about science fiction and others maybe assume it’s probably based around Doctor Who!

Yet although quirky with William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” as the basis (coping with the language and delivering those difficult famous lines is a skill!), the famous 1960’s songs carry it along throughout with fabulous pace.  It is a very challenging and musically infectious show – and Skipton MTC certainly rose to the challenge to give us an excellent afternoon’s entertainment.

The story introduced us to a hopeless romantic (Cookie, the ships cook played by David Weale), The “love interest” (Miranda, played by Rebekah Johnstone) and the mad Scientist, (Doctor Prospero played by Dale Chadwick).  All of this action takes place under the watchful eye of Captain Tempest (played by Phil Smith).

Good Vibrations, Great Balls of Fire, Only the Lonely, Robot Man – with Emma Jayne Byers playing Ariel the Robot delivering the number Robot Man with superb vocals!!

“Gloria” really rocked when Helen Procter (Gloria) gave us this fantastic number, to name a few of the almost thirty musical numbers woven in to the action.

The set – designed by Dale Chadwick and built by members of the Society - worked brilliantly well on different levels with effective graphics displayed on 4 monitors.

A really great show which had everyone clapping along.  Congratulations to the production team.  The “feel good factor” applause from the disappointingly small yet appreciative audience at the matinee said it all.
