"Every day counts" because there is "no day but today". Rent is a strong, gritty story but through all its complications it enables the talent of any society to showcase themselves.
Wow, wow, wow! NAOS carried its audience through a year in the life of one character. The whole production from beginning to end - the singing and acting - was of a phenomally high standard from a youngish cast. The director, musical director and choreographer took the audience on this journey, crammed with a large amount of emotions, and this exceptionally talented cast did not seem to put a foot wrong. Everything from the singing to the libretto and dancing maintained an unusually accomplished standard.
I thought it was very clever to put the band just off set stage right. Although we did not see them, we still heard them very clearly but music never drowned the singing and vice versa. I also thought handling the set in the way it was was refreshingly different. To attempt this show needs an incredible amount of talent being brought together. And I feel it was so entertaining and enjoyable I run out of superlatives. All the cast worked for each other the whole time and the evening never flagged once. Thank you everyone who was involved in this exciting evening, what a fabulous team. I am proud to say I was there.
