What a wonderful idea to produce a show celebrating the Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals! “Reel Magic” has been brilliantly written by Daniel Wainwright and I think a lot of research has gone into this production. The story is set in an old film studio, a party of young musical theatre students come to visit and are introduced into the world of the great musicals of the past …
Luke Campbell’s direction was excellent it was well-staged and presented throughout. Musical director, Amy Wainwright has done a remarkable job too in bringing all the numbers to life. The choreography from Chloe Ellson was awesome.
There was a large cast of about forty who all performed with great energy and skill. There were notable performances from Daniel Wainwright, Chris Taylor, Chris Thirlwell, Charlotte Wiggins, Emma Ellson and Joby Blair. The troupe of dancers was amazing and the junior chorus were delightful and clearly enjoying every minute. The entire company should be congratulated as they all worked incredibly hard throughout the show.
My favourite numbers were Anything Goes, With One Look, Diamonds are A Girl’s Best Friend, We’re In the Money, Tea For Two, Good Morning and Singing In The Rain.
Reel Magic was visually exciting to watch, the costumes, designed and produced by James Campbell were absolutely stunning! I particularly liked the gown worn by “Norma Desmond”. The wigs, designed and styled by James Campbell and the make-up, also by James Campbell were perfect. The props were outstanding too. The lighting and sound quality was excellent throughout the performance.
Congratulations to everyone at Irchester Players, both on and off the stage for this very original and well-crafted production which was highly entertaining and enjoyed by all the audience. Thank you for your hospitality and for a wonderful evening!
