The jokes came thick and fast in this pantomime adaptation of two classic fairy stories and they certainly kept the audience amused.
Every panto must have someone to be booed at and someone to raise a cheer. In this story we had The Wolf played, with effective makeup and a big voice, by Lee Harper and the sweetness of Red Riding Hood played by Kate Lowe. Every principal girl needs a principal boy and Kate worked well with Chiara Curtin as Will the Woodcutter. From the Top don’t do things by halves and we had further romantic interest from Laura Harper as Fin and Libby Allport as Jenny. All four of them sang well in solos and in combination. David Crump was a good old fashioned ‘dame’ as the Granny and it was often difficult to keep pace with his many ‘one-liners’. Deb Crump (Ursula) made an excellent wicked potential stepmother as she got her claws into Red Riding Hood’s dithering dad, Gerald, well played by Pete Aucott. More humour was provided by the ineffective and bumbling henchmen Bark (Richard Pritchett) and Trunk (Meirion Buck). Through all this mayhem there was a secondary plot featuring the three little pigs superbly played by Charlene Walker, Jane Williams and Jodie Cockeram. The ensemble sang and danced well throughout and there was a good selection of foot tapping songs well supported by a very competent trio in the pit.
Well done to everyone!
