Well done Carnoustie Theatre Group for a truly interactive experience. I loved the way that the children in the company were fully engaged and enthusiastic. It is heart-warming that so many younger members were able to participate.
This is the first Red Riding Hood pantomime I have seen and I enjoyed the way the plot unfolded and the characters were portrayed. We were introduced early on to Dame Dolly Shuffle Bucket (George Doherty). She stole her scenes with wit and considerable dress sense. Her children Red Riding Hood (Darcey Docherty) and Simple Simon (Mike Burns) were polar opposites and were the perfect foil for each other. Prince Colin (Lily Docherty) was the iconic principal boy and played the part with style. The comedy was in the competent hands of Chiff and Chaff (Muriel Gordon and Linsey McDonald) and as the sidekicks of a bumbling Baron Oompah (Andy Gilbride) kept the action flowing. The Baron’s daughter Mary (Audrey Doherty) despite her well-acted indecisiveness was a major part within the story and with Jasper (Jerry Swinley) brought about the demise of the villain. The good and evil were represented by Fairy Diamonte (Carley Geddes) and Charley the Wolf (David Cheape). Well done to you both!
The mixture of youth and experience was an effective combination and I am sure that all learned from each other.
The set was expertly constructed and the makeup and costumes completed the picture. Choreography was practiced and effective using the space well and involving all. The lighting and sound were slick and complemented the story and the crew managed the set changes well.
A production to be proud of Carnoustie - enjoyed by myself and the audience.
