This was a very different version of the well known fable “Red Riding Hood”...Red lives in the Wild West town of Redwood! Her parents were killed by the Wolf and his gang of bandits – and this was their quest for gold! I must admit I was a little startled to read the synopsis and wondered how this would work...but it worked really well, and there was never a dull moment!
Emma-Jayne Byers as Nancy and Charlotte Harrison as Bradley were our “heroes” and their musical numbers were a delight to listen to.
It was encouraging to see some of the younger members of the company taking the lime light, with Matilda Wilson as “Red”, whose song “There’s No One Quite Like Grandma” was sung so sweetly and clearly, it was lovely to listen to.
Alicia Babolcsay as the baked bean loving “Don”, Olivia Preston as “Pastor” and Georgia Knights as the piano playing “Sam” were all excellent with some great comedy lines!
David Knights as Wolf deserved every “boo” that he got!!! His excellent “sidekick” Margarita was played by Katrina Knights. Together they had some great “baddie” moments – and their interaction with the audience was great.
With Philip Smith as “Earl” and Dean Harness as “Lady” (the dame) they ensured that we got plenty of laughs – and the song sheet “La Cucaracha” went down a storm!
Scenery, costumes and props were colourful and appealing. The 4 piece band gave great musical support to the production, and they played at “whip cracking” speed which kept the panto moving at a pace.
The audience really enjoyed themselves – evident by all the booing and hissing, and the laughs and “shout outs”! It was great fun. For me, the highlight of the production was the “stagecoach” scene, which was very cleverly written.
Well done to David K, Phil, David B and Emma-Jayne on a great production – you certainly entertained us all.
