On an extremely cold evening we were entertained by this very happy and colourful pantomime, St Matthew's was, and always is the first one of the season for me. It was one of those evenings when you just don't want to venture out, but oh I am so glad I did, we had so many laughs it simply oozed with comedy. Red Riding Hood does not have a big story line but it made up for it with lots of different little cameo roles that it allowed most of the cast a small character part.
It opened as usual with the "Forest Fairy Decidua", (Molly Inglesfield) who spoke her lines clearly, the total opposite of "Count Lupis" alias the big scary Werewolf, (Dan Shawe) who growled at us throughout but delivered an excellent character. Apparently it has been twenty one years since he last appeared in a St Matthew's Pantomime, hopefully it will not be his last. The costume and make-up for him was brilliant.
Red Riding Hood (Holly Mason) sang sweetly and clearly, Simple Simon, (Jack Fitt) shared a slapstick scene in the kitchen with Grandma Hood, this was full of comical highlights. The old gags were still getting the laughs and pleasing the audience who had lots of participation.
The little tots were vocally sound delighting the audience with their number "The Teddy Bears Picnic" in their PJ's. Well defined sparkly costumes, especially in the blue and white finale, showing their support for" Huddersfield Town" with a banner saying Premier Panto. Lovely to see a full house, hope it last for the rest of your run. Well done!
