Back for the 7th year since returning to the Swan Theatre, WMTC provided another blockbuster, for which this time the chosen charity was the worthy Motor Neurone Disease Association. With one musical number after another, the audience were taken on a toe tapping extravaganza of tightly drilled foot perfect chorus numbers, against a background of smart sets, costumes and orchestral support.
Sections included and varied from Hollywood, the 90s, jazz and swing, the can-can, Rogers & Hammerstein to mention a few, but I also enjoyed the final piece in Act 1 with the ‘Magic of the Story Book’ which included the children of Claines and Stourport Wilden C of E Schools. They too were well rehearsed, sang well, smiled and all did themselves proud.
In the solo department, Jacque Cook, Anna Sterckx, Carlene Goggin-Jones and Miriam Knight led the pace in ‘It’s a Grand night for singing’ with some other notable contributions from Ken Knight and Dave Alban along the way.
Compere, Paul Bellamy linked the sections together with well timed humour and Cath Skyrme delighted the audience with several spots, Matilda’s ‘Miss Trunchbull’ and the excellent ‘The Marrow Song’ being particular show highlights. The night would not be complete though without the outstanding and uplifting talent of the dancers from the Harlequin Stage School, directed by Paula Dymock.
Thank you for the invitation and I look forward to another ‘Night to Remember’ in 2018.
