Having never seen “Rapunzel” before, it was a real treat to come to Corby to see the C.A.T.S production of this pantomime. There was a real “feel good factor” to this panto, with Director, Gordon Richie ensuring that there was plenty of audience participation for all the family. Barbara Hockey, the Musical Director and her trio of musicians gave excellent backing to the company throughout the evening (she even managed to control the persecution drummer!).There was a good choice of musical numbers, all of which were performed to a high standard. There was excellent choreography throughout the show from Marcia Mitchel and Paige Mitchel (Junior Choreographer) I particularly enjoyed the Junior tap number in Act 2; there are some very promising and engaging performers among the junior dancers.

Jess Elizabeth Nicholson playing the title role of Rapunzel was very endearing and had a good character. Erin Anderson as Prince Flynn had excellent poise and deportment for the role of a principal boy. Kev Aitken had the difficult task of playing the five-in-one role of King Jack, which he did with great aplomb! Luke Simcoe as Queen Rozita made a terrific dame, giving a well- timed comic performance and had a great rapport with the audience. Paige Mitchel as Jenny Jangles gave a strong comic performance and had some tricky, lengthy dialogue; just be careful not to lose the quality of your diction on some of those. Sue Hackett made a beautiful and charming Fairy L’Oreal, contrasting well to Janet Askew’s role of Mother Gothel. Janet was excellent and had the audience booing and hissing from her first entrance! Martin Brown in the role of Jasper also sustained his evil character well throughout the show. Well done to all the principal actors and also to all the ensemble and dancers, who worked incredibly hard throughout the show! A special mention goes to fifteen year old Kara Hamer who gave us a beautiful solo in Act 1.

The scenery, props and costumes were all to a very good standard as was the make -up. The lighting and sound quality was good throughout, just a couple of sound hiccups, but this is just a small observation.

Congratulations to the entire company of “Rapunzel”, this is a pantomime of which you should all be very proud!

Thank you C.A.T.S for a very enjoyable evening and thanks to Andy Hall for looking after us so well during the evening.
