Well, what an inspired decision by Blackwood Little Theatre to stage this different and unusual pantomime, Rapunzel. Fabulous from the minute we stepped into the theatre.
The scene was set; the Narrator Michele Rees welcomed us to this amazing story, well done and the theatre transformed into a woodland glade as front of stage a woodland was created and a fairy grotto in the theatre complete with giant toadstool for Fairy Dandruff. An exceptional sincere characterisation from Shelley Bethan Morgan bringing scenes together, and a great rapport with all on stage, a showstopper performance!
The reference to hair was obviously woven into this story of Rapunzel, played so beautifully by Megan Parsons the central character a delight in every way dancing, acting and a perfect duo with the Prince a real tongue in cheek hilarious part very well played by Ruby Porter who lit up the stage in every scene with great stage presence. Charley Flynn-Giles playing Pascal gave a lively performance with great interaction.
Stephen Seggie took the stage by storm as the Dame Fanny Follicle, with his multiple amazing costumes. Slower diction would have then meant we could have heard the fabulous funny lines and more reaction would have been achieved. Never the less an excellent performance!
Karen Murphy was very good as Mother Gothel and Tim Lewis outstanding as King Bouffant a great voice for this imposing and full of comedy role.
Louise Elliott as Gerald the Herald a great part played by versatile performer Louise as always professional with brilliant timing.
The dancers in Rapunzel were amazing with unique brilliant routines and fabulous costumes and confident children giving their all, congrats to the choreographers
Swift and silent backstage and excellent technical lighting and effects
Congratulations go to Janine O'Callaghan Director and Anya O'Callaghan MD and all the team.
We look forward to seeing you all again in 2025.
This was a fantastic pantomime one I had not seen before, and yet it is special, has everything and a fabulous start to the festive season no wonder it was sold out well deserved, Blackwood Little Theatre.
