This play, written by David Lindsay-Abaire and jointly directed by Louise Farmer and Faye Hatch is set in present day New York and tells the story of husband and wife (Becca (Suzy Donnelly) and Howie (Rob Laird) and how they are coming to terms with the loss of their son, Danny, who was killed in a car accident. Everyone is suffering.
Along the way we meet Becca’s sister, Izzy, (Janine Henderson) who herself is pregnant and their mother Nat, played by Alison Daly, who herself is trying to come to terms with losing her own son. Then we meet the nervous Jason. Jason is the driver of the car in the accident which killed Danny, he visits Becca and Howie to meet them and to heal his own suffering. The role of Jason was played by Chris McHugh who did a wonderful job in portraying the character. Jason had written a short sci-fi book and wanted to dedicate it to Danny.
The five members of this talented cast bonded well together. My only criticism is that at the start of the play you could not hear the dialogue very well. The set looked good, especially having Danny’s bedroom behind a gauze at the back of the stage. Lighting effects were good.
