A departure from the usual musicals presented by PMS, Director Luke Arnold got to grips with the tension and passion of this well known Coward play and led the small cast to a successful presentation. All the principals handled the content and the emotions of the narrative with conviction. John Wardell as the snide, presumptuous Elyot, maintained his characterisation throughout. His contempt for his new young wife Sybil (Megan Robinson) was evident, whilst his equal love and loathing of first wife Amanda was palpable. Jess Hebron as the headstrong Amanda shone from the stage. With a clear understanding of the role, she created a character full of knowing, much beyond her actual years. Her treatment of new husband Victor (Stewart Cambridge) was convincing and the simmering passion she held for Elyot was quietly tempered by desire to try again with him, despite the volatile nature of their relationship. Strong support came from both Sybil and Victor, and their closing scene in Act 3 was cleverly devised. Well done to all involved, this was a great start to what I hope will be a regular dramatic presentation for PMS.
