I was looking forward to the district premier of Priscilla Queen of the Desert the musical, From the start with the three Divas descending from the ceiling singing “ Its Raining Men “ I knew we were in for a good night. Based on the 1994 film of the same name, it follows the journey of two drag queens and a transgender woman as the travel across Australia on a bus called Priscilla.
Packed full of hits Its Raining Men, Go West, I Will Survive, Hot Stuff and Boogie Wonderland the show was full of high energy, giving the cast a chance to shine with good vocals and dancing.
Leon Davies was Tick in a role that requires him to play a delicate balance between bravado and fragility he played the part convincingly , Adam Shaw was clearly born to play the part of flamboyant Adam/Flecia, As Bernadette Mark Horne played one of the most complex characters in the show. Bernadette simply wants to be loved, and whilst on route to Alice Springs she finds when she encounters Bob the mechanic played by Adam Chester who his scenes with Mark worked very well not too overplayed. All the minor characters were well played.
Two hours of good fun, loads of laughs as well as some poignant moments earned the cast a very well standing ovation.
Congratulations to Mike on the production and superb costumes also to Jonathan on a good sound from the orchestra.
