I always look forward to my visits to this lovely part of Lancashire to see this talented Society, especially if the show takes place outside. The weather was very kind to us tonight and the audience enjoyed this production as they followed the action around this village.
The murder mystery play was written by local author, Bridget Rabbitts and was directed by Viki Mason and Charlotte Green. This was a “Family Friendly” play set in the picturesque village of Ribchester. Various members of the cast mixed with the audience as we moved to the village school, scene of the first part of the play. The costumes appeared to be entirely appropriate to the 1920’s period in which the production was to be enacted.
We were all provided with a cast list with detailed information about each character and a sheet on which to make notes about the suspects and other clues we might discover on our journey.
This was a very well directed Production with audience members discussing the many twists, turns and red herrings as the complex plot unfolded.
The Roman heritage of this area, was the perfect backdrop for the action and we were soon introduced to the various characters, by the Reverend Dr Wulstan Stalwart, played by the experienced Steven Johnson. He was particularly welcoming to his colleague and former archaeologist, Professor Amy Buckeridge played by Rebecca Parkinson.( Was their relationship deeper than at first sight?). Judy Mallam, as the formidable teacher Miss Hermione Root, was outstanding, commanding her playing area.
As the story unfolded we moved around the various locations, picking-up clues and hints and enjoying the mysteries. Congratulations to all the cast on excellent diction and projection, not always easy, if the Production takes place in an outdoor setting.
I was very impressed with the children in the cast. There were no sign of nerves and they were always in character.
This was a very enjoyable evening and all involved should be congratulated on yet another successful production.
