This was my first visit to see a show by Pleasure Folk Juniors and what a lovely evening we had watching their production of Peter Pan. All the children on stage appeared to be really having fun enjoying their chance to shine and produced energetic and enthusiastic performances. This production was a team effort and members of the Junior committee were very much involved as part of the production team along with adult members of the society. The team included Director Gemma Briscoe with Bronte Geldart and Millie Pendleton, choreography was by Liz Wainwright with, Hannah Charnock and Sancha Wheble and Musical Director was Nancy Wells.
The cast included some very talented young actors who all produced enjoyable performances and worked together to produce an entertaining production. The cast included a strong central performance from Emily Mayne as Peter Pan, who was complemented nicely by a very good performance from Millie Pendleton as Wendy whose brothers were nicely played by Alex Proctor as John and Toby Wainwright as Michael. Sancha Wheble as Captain Hook and Miles Gardner as Smee made a good comedy duo both demonstrating good comic timing and Eve McBride was a lovely Tinkerbell. There was an enjoyable acrobatic dance performance from Megan Barrett as Tiger Lily and Alex Ball and Brontë Geldart made a very believable Mr. and Mrs. Darling with Eden Wainwright as a very cute Nana. I must also mention a very good rendition of the song Lost Boys performed by Harry Geldart. I liked the idea that instead of flying the actors, which would have had major logistical problems, the cast glided around the stage on Heelys which gave the impression of flying. The chorus of Pirates, Lost boys and Indians all appeared to be having good fun and supported the principal cast very well producing some lovely characters of their own and performing the suitable choreographer with energy and lots of enthusiasm. Diction and projection was very good which meant the audience could follow the story and the action easily. Musical Director Nancy Wells who was ably assisted by a talented young drummer, played very well supporting the cast excellently as usual.
There was very good utilisation of the stage area with a multipurpose set enabling smooth transition between scenes, well done to all the backstage and technical crew and along with very colourful costumes which were just right for the story added to the success of the production.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this very enjoyable production, thank you very much for inviting us and making us so welcome, we had a lovely evening, look forward to seeing you all soon
