There were definitely no signs of ‘first night’ nerves evident among those taking part in this very polished performance. Lines were delivered with confidence and clear diction, indicating that the show had been properly rehearsed. The principals were well cast and produced good characterisation. There were strong performances from Olivia Mattless (as Peter Pan), Harry Parsons (as Captain Hook) and Matt Rostron (as Smee). Eve Harriss, Alexander Harriss and Emily Stone related well to each other as the children of the Darling family and Millie Parsons, Charley Wright, Kieran Johnson and Kirsty Strange were ideal as ‘The lost boys’. Dilara Hussein-Greene played Tinkerbell who, though she had no lines to speak, showed she was very good at miming. Andre Chambers worked extremely hard as ‘Laughing Water’, the very exuberant Indian Sqaw and mother of Tiger Lily, played by Tia Jarvis, who took this part at short notice when the originally cast member became unwell. The CADS band provided musical accompaniments for the vocalists and appropriate incidental music, they also delivered well-timed percussion to punctuate the corny gags. The wardrobe team did a tremendous job in producing the extensive range and variety of costumes. The scenery painters produced stunning sets that were enhanced by clever lighting and the stage crew worked efficiently to ensure the pace was maintained. This was first class family entertainment very much appreciated by the young and not so young alike.
