The story of Peter Pan is well known to most of us today, as a super fantasy about the Darling family and their children’s adventures in Neverland with Peter Pan, Captain Hook and his Pirates, Indians and the crocodile with a ticking clock. Peter and Wendy are trying to find the Lost Boys.
It was pleasing to see that the cast was composed of both junior and senior members of the society complimenting each other and certainly the youngsters were not outshone by their more experienced performers. Fifteen year old Marianne Bardgett I thought excelled in the title role, she was an energetic and a delightful Peter Pan, who flew beautifully and was a pleasure to watch, the children in the audience were completely spellbound. Peter was well supported the night I came along by Morgan Bower playing Wendy, I also was informed how good Kate Bowskill, and other members of the family played their parts on different nights, so well done to all of you including grown up Wendy. Mrs Darling who was still young at heart was played by Alison Birtle, and George Darling / Captain Hook, who looked quite menacing but I didn’t hear any boo’s from the young people in the audience, well done Andy Whittle. Many of the cast doubled up, all of whom brought to the story their own individual character including the mishap pirates well supported by Smee, and the teams of Lost Boys and Indian’s.
From forest to pirate ship, the action kept the audience fully entertained, all the musical numbers were well staged, and I thought that the commitment that some of these youngsters applied to remembering lines, songs and stage direction was impressive, it is a shame that I cannot name everyone individually but I must say how good Victoria Jeffreys was as the maid, and Tinkerbell was all over the place, like magic, I thought Nana was very well behaved for a dog, well done.
All in all, I really enjoyed my evening in Neverland, with colourful costumes, good sets, props, excellent flying, good sound, lighting and a well balanced orchestra, not forgetting back stage and front of house. Thank you for your hospitality over the years and best wishes to you all.
