WHITEHAVEN THEATRE OF YOUTH
PETER PAN
Peter Pan Jr was selected for the company’s twentieth anniversary production, and what an inspired choice it turned out to be. This was a very enjoyable production, and the standing ovation at the finale, showed how much the audience enjoyed the performance.
There were some excellent performances throughout. Stephanie Holburt was a very convincing Peter Pan, her singing and movement were very good, an excellent characterisation. Olivia Buchanan was an excellent Wendy, she has a beautiful singing voice, and also acted the part very well. John was very well played by Adam James, but the star of the show for me was seven yea old, going on twenty seven, Bobby Donald, he was amazing, what a very talented young man. All the other major parts were well played, Max Doran, played Captain Hook well, but I felt he could have been rather nastier and sinister at times, James Redmond had dual roles, Mr Darling and chief Tiger Bamboo. All the choruses were well played, well done in fact to the whole company.
Well done to Director Maria and the Choregraphers Judith and Emily, I know how hard they must have worked over recent months to reach the standard achieved this week. I thought the set was excellent, particularly the video wall, an inspired choice by the technical crew, the cyc projections were fantastic. Lighting and sound were good, and the performance moved along at a good pace throughout. Congratulations to all the backstage and technical crew, in fact congratulations to everyone concerned with the production.
This show deserved full houses throughout the week, sadly that wasn’t the case, maybe the schools pending summer break, and planned holidays had something to do with it, who knows?. Thank you to WTOY for a an excellent evenings entertainment, and as always the hospitality shown was brilliant
