This well loved tale was presented with humour and energy and provided a good evening’s entertainment. Being a village production, the mainly local audience’s enjoyment was obviously enhanced by familiarity with all the performers. The show opened in Neverland with the band of pirates led by a convincing Captain Hook played by Alexander McMichael and his sidekick Max Agnew as the loveable rogue Smee were ably supported by Sam Livingstone, Fraser Cornford and Rory Agnew. We were then introduced to Nibs, Slightly, Tootles and Curly (the lost boys) sympathetically played by Finn Allan, Angus Macfarlane, Roxy Hill and Callie Orr. The facial expressions of Angus being one of the highlights of the evening. Megan Craig gave a vivacious and believable performance as Peter Pan supported by Charlie Allan as an expressive Tinkerbell. David Taylor as Laughing Water established a great rapport with the audience while Tiger Lily was well portrayed by Kira Giles. Eve Agnew (Wendy), Rohan Banks-Hawley (John), Stephen Langdon (Michael) played the Darling children effectively whilst Kirsty Lees gave a warm performance as Mrs Darling. Nana the dog (Anna Bruce) and Benedict Jackson as the Crocodile were popular performers and an imaginative touch was provided by Jayne Brown as Peter’s Shadow. The principals were well supported by a spirited chorus of Pirates and Indians including dancer Joanne Lees. An imaginative and well painted set designed by Dawn Crighton and Susan Roberts overcame the restrictions of such a small stage and complemented Maggie Fleming’s direction.
