This was my first time seeing Peter Pan a Musical adventure and I must say overall I enjoyed the production very much.
Jack Walsh played a perfect Peter Pan, with superb characterisation throughout his performance. He is destined to be a star of the future I’m sure. Peters friendship with Wendy Darling played by Ellen Tozer developed throughout and I felt there was some lovely moments. Very well done in her first lead role.
Two favourite characters were Captain James Hook (Richard Bateman) and his side kick Smee (Chris Cooper). Richard was menacing in just the correct measure enough to ensure the audience booed him, but for the many children seeing the show not too frightening as can be expected for this style of family musical. Their camaraderie on stage was evident for all to see.
On the evening, I attended we had the pleasure of seeing team Bow with Matt Alton who played John Darling and William Wharton playing Michael Darling. Both relatively new to the stage played their respective roles with confidence.
STAMPS were very fortunate to have a large supporting cast including many dancers and two teams of children too numerous to mention all by name, all playing many different roles, who sounded strong and were well controlled by MD Phil Ypres Smith throughout what I perceived was a modern score.
The large scenery plot and flying rig provided the stage manager and back stage crew with many difficult technical challenges, some of which were overcome without a hitch with others being not quite so slick. I’m positive this did not detract from the audience’s enjoyment.
Finally, the costumes were beautiful.
Well done to all concerned and thank you once again for inviting me.
