On one of the soggiest of wet evenings of the Autumn the music that Skipton provided gave everyone a warm and happy glow and they forgot the bad journey to get there.  The sell out audience waited expectantly and happily.  It was so good to see so many young people and children there behaving beautifully throughout the evening.  We had elegant, precision ballet, tap and modern dancing from The Northern Dance Centre , all wearing good and appropriate costumes and really looking like they were pleased to be there.  The excellent and well rehearsed singing from the Society was good throughout with good musicality and diction both in the chorus numbers and various solos from members but it wasn’t really until Act II that they really looked as if they were enjoying things too.

One of the highlights especially for me was the Hairpray number,  where it was impossible for anyone, audience or performer to be still and not to smile.  The programme was compiled with songs from the shows that the Society had performed in the past and in Act II the ones that they hoped to perform in the future.

The showstopping highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the selection from Les Miserables, beautifully and thoughtfully sung by principals and chorus alike and where, at times, one could have heard a pin drop in the hall.  All eyes were not quite dry at the conclusion, when the applause and cheers were deafening.

The whole evening finished with a fun sing-a-long with a song from Grease that went so quickly the audience could hardly read it in time let alone sing it!!!!!

Geoff Garrett  was the Musical Director happily keeping a firm hand on the proceedings.  The excellent accompanist was Muriel Watts, Sound and Lighting by True Sounds and the evening was compered by Sally Holmes.
