I was warmly welcomed by the front of house team to what was a wonderful night of musical treats. The show was aptly named ‘Passport to Sing’ which set the scene opening with ‘Come Fly With Me’ impressively presented by fifteen well dressed, enthusiastic cast members taking us on a lyrical journey covering some old favourites and a selection of new songs. Numbers ranged from ‘Waving Through a Window’ from the musical Dear Evan Hansen to well known numbers by The Proclaimers ‘Make My Heart Fly’, Fleetwood Mac ‘Go Your Own Way’, Burt Bacharach ‘Trains, Boats and Planes’, Neil Diamond ‘Crackling Rose’, Gerry Rafferty ‘City to City’, Rick Astley ‘Dipping My Feet’, Carole King ‘So Far Away’ any many more. Choral numbers were tight with strong solos and duets provided by Gillian Gilchrist, Terri Lyon, Ann Pearston, Tammy Thomson-Hoare, Mary Fullerton, Kevin O’Raw, Alan Devlin, Jason Thomson and Simon Lippmann who each performed well. Particular highlights for me included ‘All My Lovin’ (Beatles) by the gentlemen and the women responding by ‘Dancing in the Street’ (Martha Reeves & The Vandellas) but collectively, the company delivered a most enjoyable and entertaining programme with plenty of variety which the audience appropriately applauded. The show closed fittingly with the numbers ‘From Now On’ leading into ‘Make Your Own Kind of Music’. Due to the closure of the Cowane Centre, this was a new venue for the company and I wish them well for their next venture.
